Georgian Prime Minister Meets with UN Secretary General Print Version

Georgia's Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili met today with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

The main topics of the meeting included bilateral cooperation and the state of affairs in Georgia's occupied territories. The Prime Minister informed the UN Secretary General of the grievous situation along the occupation lines and human rights violations in the occupied territories. Giorgi Kvirikashvili expressed hope that the UN, under the leadership of Antonio Guterres, will step up its active role in the process of peaceful conflict resolution.

The Prime Minister also spoke of the steps taken by the Government of Georgia to ensure confidence building among the populations in the conflict regions.

The parties emphasized the importance of the Geneva International Talks and the Gali Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism.

The Prime Minister of Georgia once again condemned the so-called referendum planned in the Tskhinvali Region, also emphasizing that the international community must join forces to stand up to the provocative actions of the Russian Federation.

The Prime Minister invited the UN Secretary General to Georgia. Antonio Guterres expressed his willingness to visit Georgia at his earliest convenience.
