Government of Georgia – Appearance 2016

Prime Minister Comments on Accusations against Private Banks Print Version

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili urges everyone to abstain from unsubstantiated accusations against the banking sector and financial institutions, Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated at today's government meeting.

The Prime Minister once again spoke of the measures planned by the Government as necessary for implementing reforms and emphasized the importance of the banking sector in this process.
According to the Head of Government, the four-point reform agenda is the cornerstone and foundation that requires necessary measures to implement in order to materialize everything the Government is discussing.

According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili's assessment, coordination in this process is of vital importance, with the banking sector one of its key links.
"I would like to comment on the totally careless accusations made over the last few days. Georgia's banking sector is one of the most developed in our region and beyond. We have very important, well-developed financial institutions, and their engagement in the reform process is vital. They make up the most important link in the development of our economy, and any negative, especially unsubstantiated, accusations against them effects grave results. Therefore, I urge everyone, especially those who frequently appear on TV, to exercise prudence in this regard. Criticism is not alien to anyone, especially the Government and our institutions, but when it comes to financial institutions, it cannot go public until every argument is discussed in formats that will protect us from such accusations against sensitive institutions," the Prime Minister stated.

The Head of Government once again emphasized the importance of the engagement of the banking and, generally, private sectors in the implementation of the Government's reforms.

"We have complete trust in our banking sector; we maintain close coordination. The engagement of the private sector, not just the banking sector, in the process of reforms is of vital importance, and we value it, indeed," the Prime Minister said.
