Government of Georgia – Appearance 2016

CONCLUSIVE SPEECH DELIVERED BY PRIME MINISTER TO PARLIAMENT OF GEORGIA Print Version

2016-11-26

"Let me thank all of you enormously for the very labor-intensive and energy-consuming several days. I wish to say a few words about myself, so that others say no more that can be labeled as flirty praise. I do not like personal toasts and leave the table when they are proposed; I never sit at the head of the meeting table, as I always tend to sit in the middle; I have never run an organization through intrigues or personal clashes. Of course all of this together is important for us to respond with a completely new style to the challenges that we face today. Why am I mentioning this now and why am I telling this to you, our opponents? For a very specific reason. Yesterday you used words "political ignorance", or something else, I want to call it simple - that is arrogance! This is why the Georgian people did not vote for you, this is the main reason that the UNM is in minority today. It needs to be analyzed and conceptualized. This is exactly what the people of Georgia voted for - a political power that can talk about its faults - and I gave you an example of this today; a political power that can talk about successes of its opponents - and I gave you an example of this as well. Sadly, none of these examples were reciprocated by you.

Hence, engine of the new reality has been put in motion and nothing can stop it. Solution to the challenges that we are facing in this new reality is in the hands of the team in power now, whether you like it or not.
Our country craves to have success stories, victories and hope in a brighter future. Economy is driven by the very hope and we should do our best to avoid depicting the reality in an overly negative manner for the sole purpose of gaining higher political scores.
Thus, I wish to address our team members: we are given a historic opportunity today to line up with those who made a great contribution to the milestone achievements in the history of Georgia and pushed forward our country. I urge you all to put everything personal aside and focus on the tremendous effort ahead of us. Every one of us, who bare this load, should understand and realize that there is no way back. We have no other choice, as we shield our motherland and our people with our shoulders all roads behind us are blocked.

Once again let me express my enormous gratitude to all of you and the entire country!
