Government of Georgia – Appearance 2016

OUR GOAL IS TO ENSURE A NORMAL POLITICAL PROCESS AT THE PARLIAMENT Print Version

2016-11-18

"Our goal is to ensure a normal political process at the Parliament of Georgia with an exchange and sharing of ideas, arguments and engagement of the entire political spectrum of Georgia in the process, which is rather important for the country" noted Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Acting Prime Minister of Georgia while talking to the press in Kutaisi.
He believes that constructive dialogue and process is vital for the country and this message has been numerously voiced during the pre-election campaign by the ruling party.
"We pledge to be most constructive. Of course, opposition should enable the political process to flow within such constructive setting. It will only benefit the country. Creation of a stable environment and expectation in Georgia is most important, along with the normal flow of the political process" noted Mr. Kvirikashvili.
Acting Prime Minister of Georgia congratulated the new Members of Parliament (MPs) and wished great success to Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia. In his opinion Mr. Kobakhidze is a high-caliber professional with a solid background in law, justice and politics. Mr. Kvirikashvili is convinced that Mr. Kobakhidze will be successful in the most demanding job during his term serving as a Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia for the next four years.
According to the Acting Prime Minister, it is equally important to ensure a smooth interaction and cooperation by and between the executive and legislative authorities.
"Cabinet Ministers will indeed cooperate and you will also see me often at the Parliament" responded Mr. Kvirikashvili to the question posed by journalists on the topic. Media representatives also requested the Acting Prime Minister to comment on the President's opinion on potential amendments to the Constitution of Georgia. Mr. Kvirikashvili stated that amendments to the Constitution are not a top priority in the Government Agenda. This process may take a year with truly a wide-scale engagement.
"Naturally, President of Georgia will most probably be one of the key players of the process. However, I believe that Parliament is a venue for drafting the potential amendments to the Constitution, which has a mandate of a legislature and can initiate amendments to the Constitution. I have no intention to create an impression that something is promised here. By no means! We will do our best to continue having a constructive dialogue, which we have been enjoying with the President of Georgia so far. We are convinced that we will make the best decisions for our country!" added Mr. Kvirikashvili.
