Statement of the Prime Minister Print Version

2016-09-01

Prime Minister of Georgia extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of military servicemen lost in the sea. As Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated in his conversation with reporters, the search process of the soldiers was ceased by the Turkish side, since they eliminated their capacities. However, the local forces continue the search procedures.

"Turkish vessel, that arrived here, has seized the search procedure, since, according to their opinion, they eliminated capacities. However, we shall continue this process and put maximum efforts to find dead servicemen. This is the greatest tragedy and hence, in my opinion, speculation with this tragedy is incorrect. I am convinced that soldiers that were there in this moment experienced even greater lifetime tragedy. I have been informed that those who attempted to help the victims, were bleeding, however, they did not manage to save the victims. Servicemen, who attempted to rescue the victims returned with ruptured eardrums and were covered in blood. This major tragedy shall be investigated. Unfortunately, we are at the development stage, where many things require amelioration. I am convinced that the relevant legislation related to the training of military servicemen needs improvement as well. However, everything cannot be fixed at once. I would like to extend my condolences to the families of the lost soldiers and declare that we will spare no effort to find these soldiers, everything is dependent on the technical capacities. We will do our best based on our capacities," - Prime Minister noted in his conversation with the press.
