Hepatitis C will be practically eradicated in Georgia in the next 4 years - Government of Georgia will approve the 2016-2020 National Strategy on Elimination of Hepatitis C during today's Cabinet Session.

According to the Prime Minister, it is praiseworthy that lives of thousands of people were rescued and thousands of families were preserved from extreme poverty during the past period.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili indicated that the Government aims at ensuring that after 4 years 90% of patients infected with Hepatitis C virus are screened and 95% of the patients with respective disease are treated.

The overall budget of 5-year strategic plan is over 116 million GEL, 57 million GEL will be allocated from the state budget, whereas medicaments worth of 15 billion USD will be granted to state within the frames of the program.

Head of the Government thanked partners engaged in implementation of the strategy, including company "Gilliard" and the US Center for Disease Control, as well as to the Governmental group led by David Sergeenko. Giorgi Kvirikashvili indicated that implementation of this program is crucially imortant.
