Government of Georgia – Appearance 2016

Statement of the Prime Minister Print Version

2016-08-14

August 14, 1992 marked one of the most tragic days in the recent history of Georgia. 24 years have passed since the war in Abkhazia started.

This date will always be a reminder for us to never repeat the gravest mistakes of the past. Nothing can bring the lives of the victims of this war back. I bow my head before the living memory of heroes who sacrificed their lives for Georgia.

Nothing can relieve longing of our IDPs for their own hearth after they were forced to abandon their households. However, we spare no effort to alleviate their everyday lives till they are able to return to their soil.

I firmly believe that brotherhood tarnished by this war will restore. Georgians and Abkhazians need each other. As Georgians, we want peace and we will convince our Abkhazian brothers in purity of our intentions. We will restore confidence and continue our mutual history built with love and respect by our ancestors.
