2016-07-13

Minister of Education and Science Aleksandre Jejelava presented information on teachers' professional development scheme to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet of Ministers. Minister of Education commended the operationalization of the professional development of scheme and he considers that the changes will be positive in terms of the faster development of education system.

"The teachers' professional development scheme that has been implemented throughout the last years shall be considered as very progressive, compliant with the Western standards - it is based on ECT mechanism. The first stage that foresees pilot testing of the scheme has been terminated. The survey revealed that the program enjoys teachers' general support. For the first time in the history we managed to create a scheme that enjoys large public support. On the other side, certain shortcomings have been revealed - the main reason of the dissatisfaction was the video lesson that was considered as hard and inappropriate by the teachers. I would like to emphasize that alongside with developing the scheme, we are altering it as well and as a result, the video lesson will not be a mandatory component of it. We held relevant consultations with the professional union of the teachers and our services. We will provide an alternative, instead of completely abolishing this component and it will be voluntary rather than mandatory. As a result, we expect that more teachers will be willing to move to the next stage in terms of professional development and conduct higher quality lectures thus providing better education for our students," - Aleksandre Jejelava noted.
