2016-07-13

Pursuant to the Government decision, the state will subsidize "Harvest 2016" - respective statement was made by the Prime Minister of Georgia before the Cabinet Meeting. Hope was expressed that thanks to the state support the farmers will sell all the harvest.

"As a result of the lengthy discussions we agreed upon subsidizing the grape sale. We take two approaches - development of local wine-making capacities and creating new potential, as well as development of local markets that requires equal amount of resources - this is crucially important.
According to the decision made this year, portions of allocated subsidies will be allocated in accordance with the types of species. I hope that harvest will not remain unsold. Opponents have speculated that the funds shall be allocated for different purposes. I would like to outline that we are spending in both of these directions. During the transition period - prior to obtaining the position on the market that will enable us to sell whole amount of local harvest, we will need to fund the export expansion and subsidization of local production. We need these measures to overcome this transitional stage and as a result, we will get rid of the subsidies," - Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated.

According to Prime Minister, during the first half of the reporting year the export of Georgian grape has increased by 44%.
