The infrastructure damaged by the recent natural disaster in the Samegrelo Region will be restored in the nearest possible future. A relevant instruction has been given by the Prime Minister of Georgia to State Rtzmunebuli Levan Shonia.

The Head of Government visited the village of Tamakoni where, because of the recent downpour, an overflowing river washed away the local bridge. The Prime Minister instructed relevant agencies to employ, if necessary, simplified procurement to step up the restoration of roads for the local population.

According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the recent massive natural disaster has affected more than one region, destroying bridges, washing away roads, flooding arable lands, and killing livestock.

"The damage is considerable. The recently formed special commission is already calculating the damage. Importantly, restoration work has already begun. Tomorrow relevant machinery will be delivered. We will employ simplified procurement to bolster this work. It will not take much time," the Prime Minister stated.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili expressed his sympathies to the families of Mikheil Berishvili, aged 18, who perished in the Abasha River, and rescuer Elguja Jamrishvili who tried to rescue the drowning young man. It was emphasized that their death is a great loss.

"All other problems will be solved. We will make sure of that. All agencies are working extended shifts. Ministers and heads of relevant agencies are assigned to different regions, and decisions are made very fast. We will set the amounts of some compensations after the damage has been calculated. We will do our best to compensate as much as possible," the Prime Minister said.

In his visit to the village of Tamakoni, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze, State Rtzmunebuli Levan Shonia, and Zurab Alavidze (the head of Strategic Projects Management at the Administration of the Government of Georgia).
To address the problems arising from the recent heavy rains and natural disaster in Western Georgia, relevant agencies and local authorities are working extended shifts.
