Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili conducted a meeting with the independent expert for human rights issues Thomas Hammarberg - who is visiting Georgia pursuant to the request of Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Herbert Salber. Within the said capacity Thomas Hammarberg visited Georgia for the second time.

Thomas Hammarberg will travel to Abkhazia tomorrow, to observe the human rights situation on the ground, as well as to examine the circumstances surrounding the murder of Goga Otkhozoria on May 19 in Khurcha.

During the conversation, the Prime Minister once again stressed the need of immediate arrest of the offender, noting that such a brutal crime shall not go unpunished.
Within the frames of his mandate Thomas Hammarberg will return to the region once again in autumn and late he will elaborate the report on state of human rights in Abkhazia for the EU's Special Representative for South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia. The report will also set out recommendations.

Meeting at the Administration of the Government was also attended by the Prime Minister's assistant on human rights and gender equality issues Sopho Japaridze.
