Historical process of cultivation of the oldest Meskhetian grape varieties in the restored "Khizabavri Meskheti terrace" area in Samtskhe-Javakheti begins. Today the Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the funders of Meskheti terraces Mamuka Kazaradze and Badri Japharidze as well as director of "Vardzia Terraces" Giorgi Natenadze and Metropolitan of Akhaltsikhe and Tao-Klarjeti Theodore planted the first seedlings of the grapes in Aspindza district, or the territory of Meskheti terraces.

Beginning of the reinforcement of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Georgia as a whole, - Prime Minister assessed the initiation of the process of planting the unique grape varieties on Meskheti terraces.

"It is difficult to explain my emotions - glorious venture has been undertaken. I am glad that we managed to restore this monument of cultural heritage that had been forgotten for many centuries. I would like to thank Mamuka Khazaradze, Badri Japharidze, Giorgi Natenadze and Father Theodore and Georgian Church as a whole for their support," - Prime Minister noted and extended his particular gratitude to the workers engaged in the restoration process.

Pursuant to the Prime Minister, it is crucial that respective project entailed revival of the ancient professions, including stone works that will revitalize the region and attract more guests to it.

"Number of people are already interested in this project. If I am correct, 27 historical varieties of grape have already been planted on this area and I would like to thank Cartu Fund that allocated Jighaura forestry with the overall cost of 20 million GEL to the state free of charge. The forestry restored and preserved more than 460 varieties of historic Georgian grape as well as grapes from overseas. This is a truly glorious undertaking and I am glad to see the place where Tamar of Georgia walked barefoot to pray for the wellbeing of her country and to be able to observe the process of planting of the variety of grape that carries her name. This is symbolic and not a mere coincidence. This is a clear sign of revival of Georgia. I congratulate you once again and wish you every success," - Prime Minister noted.

17 varieties of unique Meskhetian grape will be planted on the rehabilitated terraces thus supporting stimulation of wine making industry in the region.

Meskheti terraces cover 23 hectares of land and the overall amount of investment is up to half a million GEL.
