Prime Minister of Georgia congratulated Italy on its national holiday Republic Day, - Giorgi Kvirikashvili attended the "Italian Festival 2016" organized by the Italian Embassy to mark the holiday.
Prime Minister elaborated on the friendly relations between the countries and noted that Italy as one of the EU leaders is a standard-setter and an important partner of Georgia.
"Almost 70 years ago on this very day, Italians went to the polls to decide on the future of their government. They took a strong stance against fascism and chose to uphold values of freedom and democracy.
These values made Italy a founding and leading member state of the European Union, a model and key partner for Georgia. Georgia has much to thank Italy for, and to celebrate on this day! You have supported our internal reforms, and our aspirations towards European integration. Italy took a strong stand in support of our country's sovereignty and territorial integrity and our non-recognition policy towards Georgia's occupied regions.
As old friends, Georgia and Italy have a great deal in common. Like Italy, Georgia's civilization is ancient, with a love of culture, art and traditional food. Like Italy, Georgia has a strong and world renowned tradition of wine-making,"- Prime Minister noted.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili considers that as two countries become closer, they both stand to benefit greatly. The implementation of the Georgia-EU DCFTA will bring important opportunities for Italian entrepreneurs to invest in Georgia.
"We look forward to welcoming your fellow countrymen!" - Prime Minister addressed Italian Ambassador.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili also thanked Ambassador of Italy to Georgia H.E. Antonio Enrico Bartoli for the dedication he has shown to the Georgian cause and the benefits seen by the country from his experience, advice and support.
Ambassador of Italy reasserted support to the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia and noted that Giorgi Kvirikashvili is his personal friend.
"We have entered elections period and I know that diplomats tend to be neutral, but these words come from the bottom of my heart - I have an utmost respect for Giorgi Kvirikashvili and during these few months he became my personal friend"
Within the frames of "Italian festival 2016", exclusive exhibition of clothing and accessories famous Italian designers and Italian flags was held. The guests tasted Italian dishes. The event was attended by the representatives of legislative and executive branches of the government diplomatic corps and international organizations.
