The Chairman of the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) General Mikhail Kostarakos welcomes democratic reforms in Georgia, - General emphasized during his meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

In the course of their conversation they touched upon matters including European and Euro-Atlantic integration Warsaw Summit, recent developments in the occupied territories of Georgia and regional security issues.

The head of the government of Georgia noted that European integration is the top priority of the Georgian government and successful completion of liberalization of visa regime is crucial in this context. The Chairman of the European Union Military Committee reasserted his support to the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia.

The sides also discussed the implementation process of NATO-Georgia Substantial Package. Pursuant to the Prime Minister, Georgia expects recognition of attained progress and enlargement of the cooperation formats with the Alliance during the Warsaw Summit.

Participation of Georgian soldiers in international missions in Afghanistan, Mali and Central Africa was emphasized. The Chairman positively assessed the professionalism of Georgian armed forces.
Particular attention was paid to the developments in the occupied territories of Georgia. Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the homicide perpetrated on the territory controlled by the Georgian side on May 19 in the village Khurcha and noted that respective fact is an indication of the deplorable humanitarian conditions in Abkhazia.

In this context the importance of the work performed by the EU Monitoring Mission as a sole international mechanism was underlined. The Geneva negotiations format was also discussed.

Prime Minister thanked the Chairman of the EUMC for his participation in the Defence and Security Conference that will take place on May 24-25 in Tvilisi.
