Project of epochal significance that will be truly beneficial for Georgia and a region as a whole - Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili assessed the project of Institute of Technology, implementation of which was launched today.

Prime Minister alongside with the world-renowned scientists laid the foundation for the project costing several million euros that is fully funded by international charity foundation "Cartu".

Giorgi Kvirikashvili extended his particular gratitude to Bidzina Ivanishvili for yet another glorious undertaking and famous scientists who came to Georgia to attend this particular event, "I am convinced that the institute will soon become one of the most prestigious regional scientific and educational centers. I would like to particularly emphasize the most important component of the project - significance of construction of particle accelerator. Thanks to the particle accelerator complex that is widely known as ‘the Collider" will enable new generations of Georgian and foreign scientists to undertake vitally important researches in various areas, including in the field of medicine - in the branch of hadron therapy. In this regard, Georgian Institute of technology will become the fifth after those located in Italy, Switzerland, Japan and Austria," - Prime Minister declared.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili also noted that Georgian Government has signed relevant memoranda of cooperation with CERN (the European Organisation for Nuclear Research), CNAO (Italy's National Centre of Oncological Hadron Therapy), INFN (he National Institute of Nuclear Physics) and other leading centers that are engaged in the implementation of the project to ensure exchange of the experience in the field of education.

Prime Minister is convinced that the cooperation will be exceptionally useful and fruitful.  "Upon the termination of the particle accelerator, the institute will obtain the designation of the world-class large-scale research center. It will work in the field of hadron therapy. We consider that this groundbreaking cancer treatment method will be successfully implemented in Georgia. We aim at ensure that the Institute becomes the hub for the scientists with the highest qualification. This is a project of vital importance in terms of development of the research capacity in our country and increasing intellectual and educational level countrywide.

The project aims at creation of Master's and Doctoral programs as well as implementation of scientific researches in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, technology and engineering. Unique experimental base for the modern research will be established," - Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted.

The students will be enabled to actively participate in scientific research processes taking place worldwide. Their education and business trips to partner institutions will be fully funded by "Cartu", which, according to the Prime Minister is a greatest and unparalleled support.

Moreover, the students of the Institute will personally partake in construction and launching of the experimental base that will provide them with additional experience.

"I am convinced that we will soon able to prove that we can contribute to the development of science and modern technologies. We are launching an exceptional, costly, yet promising project that will benefit Georgian nation as well as the whole region," - Prime Minister declared.

The founder of "Cartu", former Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili attended the presentation of the Institute of Technology with his wife. Members of the Government, famous Georgian and foreign scientists and representatives of the diplomatic corps also attended the event.
The idea of Institute of Technology implies setting up of the fundamental and applied scientific and research center. The project aims at creation of Master's and doctoral programs as well as implementation of scientific researches in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, technology and engineering.

Relevant database necessary for modern scientific and experimental researches will be set up. The latter is essential to ensure development of the country's research potential. The Institute will also have practical application - namely, it will be engaged in provision of hadron therapy for cancer.

Setting up of the first scientific and research center within the region will ensure development of new generation of scientists, their cooperation with professors and researchers from the world-class universities.
