"The Year of Europe's Development " - is the name of international conference officially opened in Riga on January 9.

The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili made a speech at the conference, attended by the high officials of different countries and EU institutions as well as the representatives of international, non-government and research organisations.

The Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma and the President of European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker made the opening speech at the event.

The conference participants discussed the cooperation, necessary on the way of world development and the measures EU member states should take within the framework of "The Year of Europe's Development".

Since 1983, by the EU's initiative, each year is dedicated to the development of specific field. 2015 is the year of Europe's development, during which the EU will focus on the international development policy. Latvia has hosted the conference with the status of the EU's Chair State.

The Head of Georgian Government took part in the international conference within the framework of business visit to the Republic of Latvia.

Irakli Garibashvili met with the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Affairs of EU in Riga Federica Mogherini as well as the President of Latvia Andris Bērziņš, Chairman of the Seimas of the Republic of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece and the Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs.

The Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma had hosted Irakli Garibashvili and Georgian Government Delegation at the business lunch, after which the Prime Ministers of two countries made the joint statements for the Media.

The Georgian government delegation, headed by the Prime Minister was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tamar Beruchashvili and the State Minister of the Issues of Integration with the European and Euro-Atlantic Organisations David Bakradze.
