Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Minister of Health, Labor and Social Affairs Davit Sergeenko announced the introduction of a new revolutionary treatment to Georgia's Hepatitis C Drug Elimination Program. Havron, the new drug, will enhance the treatment program and make it more effective.

Georgian Prime Minister explained that the first stage of the Hepatitis C Elimination Program has been successful. Before signing a new contract, Georgia had received a decision of its American partners on uninterrupted continuation of Hepatitis C Elimination Program.

"During the first stage of the program, the project received high praise at several international conferences. The World Health Organization rated our project as one of the best. And, I would like to quote our American partners' words, that Georgia has become an example for other countries, demonstrating a global approach with regard to this virus," stated Prime Minister Garibashvili.

He continued, "Today, we would like to inform you about a very important innovation, which will soon be introduced in Georgia. Havron, a next generation drug, will make treatment more effective."
Prime Minister Garibashvili confirmed that the majority of patients involved in the Hepatitis C Drug Elimination Program, who underwent the full course of treatment, have been cured of the virus.
The Prime Minister thanked Minister Sergeenko, Georgia's American partners, Healthcare and Penitentiary Ministries and medical staff for the implementation of the unprecedented program.
Minister Sergeenko also asked the public to participate in free Hepatitis C screenings, noting that early detection is the best way to provide timely treatment.
The Hepatitis C Elimination Program, which includes prevention, diagnosis and treatment components, was launched in May 2015.
