Cabinet Discusses IDP Housing Initiative Print Version

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili chaired a recent government session, during which the Cabinet discussed new housing options for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
"By government decision, residential space will be transferred into the ownership of another 347 IDP families," stated Prime Minister Garibashvili.
The Cabinet also announced that the IDPs will receive flats in Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Senaki, Abasha, Marneuli, Khobi, Tskaltubo and Chkhorotsku. They outlined their plan to gift IDPs with private ownership of new state owned flats in Olympic Village by the end of the year. The state recently bought 9 new buildings in the area.
Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees Sozar Subari explained that 330 flats in Olympic Village will be transferred to IDPs by the New Year, whereas 300 flats will be transferred gradually in February and June.
Overall, refugees will receive over 1,1100 flats in various districts of Tbilisi over the course of 2016.
