Prime Minister of Georgia lit the first candle of Hanukkah in Tbilisi main Synagogue and congratulated the Jewish people on Hanukkah holiday.
In his speech Irakli Garibashvili talked about a strong, multi-century friendship between the Georgians and the Jewish and described it as exemplary.
"I cordially congratulate the Jewish on Hanukkah holiday. This ancient holiday is the symbol of victory of light against darkness, good against evil, justice against injustice. The Georgians and the Jews are tied with special friendship. This is really a unique relationship," - the Prime Minister stated.
According to the head of government this year the 26th anniversary of the centuries-old friendship was celebrated in Georgia and with the efforts of Bidzina Ivanishvili Museum of Jewish History of Georgia was opened.
"The anniversary of 26-century friendship was celebrated by opening the Jewish history museum which was funded by Bidzina Ivanishvili. Current synagogues of Georgia were repaired with his efforts as well. It is the merit of Bidzina Ivanishvili that for the past two year Georgian-Jewish relations were particularly stregthened. Our government will continues this path, this policy and we will always have special attitude to our brothers, to Israel state," - Irakli Garibashvili noted.
Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania and ambassador of Israel to Georgia Juval Foks were in synagogue with the Prime Minister.
