Five years have passed since adopting a Law of Georgia on the Development of High Terrain Regions. Highlands Development Fund was also incorporated 5 years ago.

Permanent resident of high terrain regions is a status assigned to 246 447 citizens, who benefit from social and tax concessions. This list will be extended to cover almost 26 000 additional citizens under the Government Resolution.

59 villages (in Gori, Dmanisi, Aspindza, Tianeti, Dusheti, Ozurgeti Municipalities), including Gomi Mount and 19 villages by the occupation line have been officially classified as highlander settlements under the Government Resolution adopted today.

Following provisions will apply within various concessions of the Law from the day of its enforcement:

State pension supplement has been assigned to 83 121 pensioners;

Concession on the utility bill payment for the consumed power energy has been granted to 91 617 citizens;

Social security package has been supplemented for 17 509 beneficiaries;

Remuneration has been supplemented for 12 990 teachers;

Remuneration has been supplemented for 1 743 healthcare professionals;

Allowances for newborn children have been paid to 16 447 beneficiaries;

Remuneration has been supplemented for 318 sports coaches;

Timber concessions were granted to 19 116 households last year;

Tax concessions have been benefited by 424 enterprises.

Highlands Development Fund has financed various types of projects since its incorporation in the total volume of 106 MLN GEL, out of which:

Almost 50 MLN GEL has been used for infrastructure projects;

Produce in Georgia has financed 2105 projects in a total value of 20 MLN GEL;

Cooperatives benefiting from a state program for the rational use of grassland pastures have been funded with 17 284 105 GEL;

Budget allocations for the access to first medical aid have totaled to 23 000 GEL.

150 000 GEL has been allocated for developing a curriculum and establishing a Department of Highlands at the Technical University of Georgia;

2 555 000 GEL has been allocated for the rehabilitation/construction of boarding schools, etc.
