Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2012 Year

Meeting of the Government as of May 24, 2012

Meeting of the Government as of May 24, 2012 On May 24, 2012 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 101 items.

Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister, Nika Gilauri, gave the public a piece of news about NATO Summit. We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Before we start the government meeting, I would like to give the public a piece of news about NATO Summit which was held last week in Chicago. In this respect it was a very important step of Georgia forward to NATO. The key positive outcome of the Summit was putting Georgia in the context with three Balkan NATO aspirant countries. It was very important that Georgia has been the only partner country to participate in all three partner events in this summit - NATO+ partners, NATO + aspirant countries, NATO and Afghan Mission member countries. It is of vital importance for our country that the U.S. Secretary of State has stated, that she believes this Chicago Summit should be the last summit that is not an enlargement summit. Accordingly, the next NATO summit will be enlargement summit - consensus is being established about this three aspirant countries and the one among them is Georgia.

I would like to thank everyone in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia who worked for preparation of this summit. I also highly appreciate the State Minister for Euro-Atlantic relationships. Definitely, it was not easy to carry out all this work and I do appreciate everyone for his help and support during this period.

The next main issue of today's government meeting is the statement that I would like to make for public and for the members of the government with regard to 25% railway shares which we were intended to bring to the stock market. Last days I have consulted with bankers and investors and, taking into account the situation with World markets due to problems occurred in Greece and then in Spain, I was advised to postpone this process. Accordingly, I have to follow experts' advice and to postpone with railway shares offering. In spite of the fact, that several weeks ago the situation with Worlds markets was positive and the Gas Corporation has successfully issued the Eurobonds, nowadays situation on International Stock markets is not good enough. Accordingly, we have decided to postpone with offering of 25% of railway to the stock markets until situation change to better. "
