Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2012 Year

Meeting of the Government as of February 21, 2012

Meeting of the Government as of February 21, 2012On February 21, 2012 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 59 items.
Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, talked about direct investments of the last year. We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Good day. Before we discuss the issues of the government meeting, I would like to give the public a piece of information about direct investments of the last year. We have preliminary data of economic growth of January as well. These are quite positive figures. Last year, direct investment amounted to at least USD 950 million, specified figure will amount to USD 1 billion - 1 billion 100 million. This is always like that: preliminary figure is less by 100 million compared with the last figure, as statistical recording is in progress till the end of March. We suppose that the last year, direct investment in Georgia amounted to USD 1 billion, which is not a little figure.

Preliminary figure of January related to economic growth amounts to 5%. This is quite a good and satisfactory economic figure, taking into consideration the present situation actually existing in the whole world and our neighboring countries.

I would like to point out that we held quite an interesting meeting with private sector last weekend. Activity of private sector is obvious, which is important for economic growth. Suggestions made by private sector are positive. We continue working together in order to present additional changes to the Tax Code and other legislations, to simplify making investment and creating jobs in Georgia to business and private sector.

Apart from this, I would like to mention an incident that has taken place at a new maternity center. A woman has deceased. Her doctor jumped out of the window trying to commit suicide.

I have instructed the Minister of Health to study the incident: what has caused the death of the woman and whether the hospital satisfied terms of license.
This hospital was privatized a year ago, in February. The hospital was purchased by collective. We wised to rehabilitate the hospital, but examination showed that the hospital does not comply with terms of license.

I am sorry the incident has taken place. I would like to condole with family of the deceased woman.

We have to terminate license to this institution this very day. We will give a certain period of time to the owners to repair the clinic and bring respective equipment in; after that, we will restore the license.

Until that, activities of the clinic shall be terminated and the owner shall fulfill the investment obligation."
