Meeting of the Government as of January 21, 2011

Meeting of the Government as of January 21, 2011 On January 21, 2011 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 65 items.
Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, summed up his visit to Abu Dhabi. We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Before we go to the issues on the agenda, I would like to inform the public and the government members in a few words about our visit to Abu Dhabi where an energy conference was held. This conference was held in Abu Dhabi, and it was a very representative event. It was attended by presidents and prime ministers of a lot of countries. The conference was dedicated to alternative sources of energy. It is very important that the significance of Georgia as a country with hydro resource potential was emphasized once again. We are the only country with such potential. It's very important to attract additional investments to this sector and to our country. I would like to emphasize that construction of five hydroelectric power plants started last year, and construction of five more will start this year. I hope that after this visit we will have additional investors from the Arab countries who will express a desire to start building additional hydroelectric power plants.

We had meetings with the Sheikh of Dubai and the Sheikh of Abu Dhabi. The conversations dealt with the investment climate and the investments that the companies of this country are making in Georgia. I would like to emphasize that this country is the largest investor in Georgia. They have made investments in the Poti Port, as well as in the tourism infrastructure, banking sector, and telecommunications sector. They are one of the main investors in Georgia today, and I hope that these investments will increase further in the future.

It was very important that we met with Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary General of the UN. The dialogue mainly dealt with the Geneva talks, the Geneva format, and it is very important to have his personal support for Georgia, which he emphasized once again at the meeting."
