Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2011 Year

Meeting of the Government as of January 5, 2011

Meeting of the Government as of January 5, 2011On January 5, 2011 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 20 items.
Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, congratulated the Georgian population on the New Year and focused attention on several issues. We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Today, we have the first government meeting in 2011. On behalf of the government, I would like to congratulate the entire Georgia on the New Year and the upcoming Christmas and wish everyone success.

From the economic point of view, 2010 was a difficult but quite a successful year. The year's economic growth was much higher than we and international experts had expected. However, the inflation pressure was also high, which had a certain negative impact on the society and the economy. In 2010, we were mainly focused on education, the healthcare sector, and the New Economic Course. The government's main focus will be the same in 2011. These directions are education, healthcare, and the New Economic Course, about which we declared to the public a few weeks ago. These will be the main directions we will be working on in 2011.

In this connection, I would like to emphasize one factor. From January 1, the new Tax Code, which was written in a very close cooperation with the private sector, took effect. I would like to ask everybody, if you find any shortcomings or problems with the new Tax Code, please contact the Ministry of Finance, the Revenue Service, or the Office of the Prime Minister, where there is a Business Ombudsman, and, if there are any shortcomings, we will try to remedy them in the nearest future. This is our new direction, the New Course, in which I would like the private sector and the Revenue Service, the private sector and the Ministry of Finance to cooperate very closely with each other. We hope that the New Course will yield results and the economic growth will be even higher in 2011 than we have predicted."
