2021-03-18

The Coordination Council made a decision today to further ease the COVID restrictions. It was announced by Ilia Darchiashvili, Head of Government Administration at a press-briefing.

According to him, children entertainment centers and cinemas will be permitted to resume operation by complying with regulations from April 1, 2021.

"Let me brief you on the new decisions made by the Inter-Agency Coordination Council. As you may well be aware, most of the restrictions imposed in the country have been eased already. The Coordination Council made a decision to go further. Hence, children entertainment centers and cinemas will be permitted to resume operation from April 1, 2021. Live music will be allowed at eateries from tomorrow, March 19.

Also, as you know, the football match of the Georgian-Spanish teams is scheduled for March 28. The Coordination Council decided to allow spectators to attend the match by keeping a distance among them and in compliance with all relevant epidemiological safety standards. 30% of the spectators will be admitted to the venue. There is also a Grand Slam in judo, which will also admit 30% of spectators" announced Ilia Darchiashvili.

According to him, restriction on mobility at night remains valid at this point in time, because it is one of the most effective leverages for the concentration of people.

"As you know, an application has been made to the Coordination Council regarding the public holiday of Nowruz Bayram requesting a lift on the night mobility ban. According to the decision of the Coordination Council, due to the concentration of people on cultural, religious and other similar holidays, there is an increased risk of viral spread. It is particularly so, when most of the restrictions have already been lifted. Therefore, it is not advisable to ease the restrictions on such holidays.

Restrictions on the night movement still remain valid at this point in time, as it is one of the most effective leverages for the reduction of concentration. We monitor the situation and make further decisions based on the analysis of the existing epidemiological stance.

Once again I wish to urge the public to adhere to eased restrictions and to wear facemasks. It is exactly the uniform wearing of facemasks and compliance with simple recommendations that has proven to be the best method for preventing a viral spread" concluded Ilia Darchiashvili, Head of Government Administration.
