Berdia Sichinava: 13,699 tests have been conducted throughout the country under the intensive testing program in the past 24 hours, with 1,972 new cases and 2,737 recoveries confirmed Print Version

In the past 24 hours, 1,972 new infection cases have been confirmed, Berdia Sichinava, Deputy Head of the Task Force under the Interagency Coordination Council, stated during today's briefing at the Administration of the Government.

He discussed the latest coronavirus statistics and the Government's efforts as of December 24.

"13,699 tests have been conducted throughout the country under the intensive testing program in the past 24 hours, including 7,146 antigen tests and 6,553 PCR tests.

Consequently, we have 1,972 new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours. Since the first outbreak of COVID-19 in the country, we have had a total of 216,843 confirmed cases.

We have 2,737 recoveries in the past 24 hours, increasing the total number of recoveries to 194,705.

Unfortunately, 43 people have died in the past 24 hours. Since the outset of the pandemic, we have had a total of 2,276 fatalities.

Of the 1,972 cases identified today, 920 were confirmed in Tbilisi, 139 in Adjara, 279 in Imereti, 112 in Kvemo Kartli, 145 in Shida Kartli, 30 in Guria, 120 in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, 117 in Kakheti, 57 in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 32 in Samtskhe-Javakheti, and 21 in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.

Presently, we have 19,836 active infection cases. 6,149 persons are treated in hospitals, including 2,734 in Tbilisi, 647 in Adjara, and 1,257 in Imereti. We have 1,068 severe cases, including 523 in Tbilisi, 119 in Adjara, and 226 in Imereti, of whom 453 are on a ventilator, including 195 in Tbilisi, 98 in Adjara, and 78 in Imereti.

1,588 persons are in clinical hotels, including 608 in Tbilisi, 707 in Adjara, and 112 in Imereti. 12,099 persons are recovering at home.

We have 405 persons in quarantine zones, including 180 in Tbilisi, 129 in Adjara, and 13 in Imereti.

From October 6 through December 23, a total of 20,878 persons have been transported from the state border into quarantine zones.

Presently, 39,105 persons are self-isolating, including 19,475 in Tbilisi, 4,363 in Adjara, and 5,168 in Imereti," Berdia Sichinava said.
