Natia Mezvrishvili to OGP Director: Open governance and maximum transparency is the government priority in the present condition of crisis Print Version

Natia Mezvrishvili, Head of Government Administration of Georgia discussed issues of open governance with Sanjay Pradhan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) today.

At a meeting held in the format of a video conference, the Head of Government Administration once again confirmed the commitment of the Government of Georgia assumed towards principles of open governance and stressed that availability of information, accountability and transparency at its maximum remain to be the key priorities of the country, especially in the conditions of crisis.

Dignitaries discussed the significance of open governance during the pandemic and discussed the challenges that countries face in the new reality. Focus towards this end was made on the negative impact of disinformation during the pandemic. As noted by Natia Mezvrishvili, the Government of Georgia has been constantly sharing timely and reliable information to the general public from day one of the crisis management. It is aimed at minimizing the negative consequences of disinformation.

Sanjay Pradhan spoke about the key features of crisis management during the pandemic and effective steps made by the government. Also, the need for quick and consistent communication with citizens was stressed in the process of fighting against the pandemic.

The Head of Government Administration shared information with the OGP CEO on the changes made in the country for the improvement of open governance and plans ahead. Dignitaries discussed compliance of the newly established Council with high standards of organizational arrangements and noted that a new Action Plan of Open Governance - Georgia developed by the Council will be particularly important for the country.

As explained by Natia Mezvrishvili, irrespective of the delays caused by the crisis, the Government of Georgia prioritizes the development of a new Action Plan of Open Governance - Georgia, which will respond to the new reality, challenges faced by the country and citizen needs.

Natia Mezvrishvili expressed her gratitude to Sanjay Pradhan for a fruitful cooperation and noted that Georgia as a member of the Steering Committee of OGP stands ready to share its experience of crisis management with partner countries and to contribute to a further solidity of the organization.

OGP is an international initiative, uniting 78 countries of the world. It aims to ensure openness and accountability of governments by engaging civil societies and citizens in the process of governance.
