2020-10-21

"We wish to clearly state that infected individuals are under medical supervision both at home and at COVID Hotels. When people are not placed at hospitals, it does not mean that they are left without medical supervision" stated Natia Mezvrishvili, Head of Government Administration at a press briefing held today after the Inter-Agency Coordination Council today.

According to her, the Government of Georgia is doing its best to use hospitals only for infected patients with the acute health condition and chronic diseases.

"Medical treatment of COVID infected people under the new model continues at home and at COVID Hotels. Questions were asked recently about this topic and I wish to clearly state that doctors supervise the medical treatment of infected people at home or at hotels. When people are not placed at hospitals, it does not mean that they are left without medical supervision.

As for who is treated at hospitals, we are doing our best to use hospitals only for infected patients with the acute health condition and chronic diseases, as well as for the elderly and those in greatest need. In general, it could be said that the rising community transfer rate is witnessed globally and it will be happening here as well. Also, similar to the rest of the world, we continue to manage the process, including with a new model of clinical management" stated Natia Mezvrishvili.

According to her, a new set of rules is coming into force today and citizens of Georgia will be placed in self-isolation instead of quarantine if they present negative PCR test results at the border upon their entry to the country.

According to the Head of Government Administration, certain speculations existed on the matter and these rules apply to citizens of Georgia arriving from any country of the world.

"Certain speculations existed on the matter, but the only truth is that people, who will present negative PCR test results upon their entry to the country will be sent to self-isolation instead of quarantine. This measure applies to citizens of Georgia arriving from any country of the world, not only those which are under the international reciprocation arrangement" noted Natia Mezvrishvili, Head of Government Administration.

According to her, false information has been spread recently, claiming that the number of hospital beds was not sufficient and that people are kept at home or COVID Hotels without any medical treatment. As the Head of Government Administration stated, this information is false and is aimed at spreading the panic in the country.

"Unfortunately, false information has been spread recently, claiming that the number of hospital beds was not sufficient and that people are kept at home or at COVID Hotels without any medical treatment. Some were also saying that phone calls are left unattended and people failed to get consultations. I wish to calm the society down. There is no reason to be concerned, especially towards this end. This information is far from being real and is false, to put it simply. They are spread by people, who wish to circulate panic" stated Natia Mezvrishvili, Head of Government Administration.

According to her, 21 703 people are in self-isolation today and family doctors are in touch with each of them.

Natia Mezvrishvili also noted that there may be individual cases, when a medical consultation was deferred by 1-2 hours, but these cases are not of systemic nature.

"In real terms 21 703 people are in self-isolation today and family doctors are in touch with each of them. It is understandable that there may be individual cases, when a medical consultation was deferred by 1-2 hours and some people write about such cases in social media. However, these are individual cases and do not have a systemic nature. Therefore, I urge you to keep away from engaging in the panic for these individual cases. Medical doctors are in touch with people staying in self-isolation at home or COVID Hotels. The total number of active cases consists of 11 033 patients treated at hospitals and over 21 000 individuals in self-isolation. In real terms, medical doctors are in touch with these people. As for the false information, I urge you and we will also do our best to prevent the spread of the referred information. We will be holding daily briefings. As you may well be aware, the Government of Georgia was unprecedentedly transparent from day one and trust me, I do not wish to use this word, but if an apocalypse happens, we will come out and say it from this rostrum. None of the Council Members has ever had a problem of doing it. The truth is what the Council Members are saying from this rostrum, no matter how bitter it may sound, we will never keep away from saying the truth. That is why, I urge you to rely on what is said from this platform and official sources of information, what is posted on stopcov.ge, what is said by epidemiologists and what is discussed by the Council Members. It will predominantly facilitate the flow of accurate information and will thereby contribute to the joint fight against the virus" stated Natia Mezvrishvili.
