Sopo Japaridze Discusses Georgia’s Progress in Protecting Human Rights and Combating Domestic Violence at NATO-Georgia Commission Meeting

At today's NATO-Georgia Commission meeting held at the level of the NATO Partnerships and Cooperative Security Committee in the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Prime Minister's Assistant Sopo Japaridze presented a report on the Georgian Government's performance in the areas of human rights, ensuring gender equality, and combating violence against women and domestic violence, and future plans in these areas.

The Prime Minister's Assistant also provided allies working on human rights and gender equality with information the state's legislative and institutional changes pertaining to the protection of children's rights.

In particular, special emphasis was placed on the practical implementation of the Juvenile Justice Code and the measures taken by the state to address the issue of homeless and working children. As it was pointed out, eliminating violence against minors is the Georgian Government's top priority.

During the meeting, representatives of the NATO member states commended Georgia's progress in ensuring gender equality and protecting human rights and ethnic minority rights.

Sopo Japaridze also introduced the participants of the commission's meeting to the Georgian Government's peace initiative A Step to a Better Future.
