Aide to Prime Minister of Georgia Participates in an International Conference in Kyiv Print Version

Ms. Sophie Japaridze, Aide to the Prime Minister of Georgia on Human Rights and Gender Equality, participated in an international conference held in Kyiv. She shared the experience of Georgia in the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security with other participants of the event and Government of Ukraine.

Ms. Japaridze presented the success stories of Georgia in her speech and stressed the importance of developing a needs-based plan and significance of coordinated efforts in the implementation of the referred plan.

"National Action Plan of Georgia for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security with a timeframe of 2018-2020 is an integral part of the Government Policy on the Protection of Human Rights, Gender Equality, Women Empowerment, Conflict Prevention and Resolution, along with Peace Building. Through the implementation of the referred plan, Government of Georgia has been integrating the gender perspective in the security sector and decision-making process. In addition, implementation of the plan implies the protection of the rights of women and girls, their full engagement in the process of conflict prevention and resolution. Government agencies responsible for the implementation of the Action Plan contribute to the definition of priorities, which are elaborated in fine detail within the sector-specific plans of respective government agencies. Local authorities and civil society play a special role in the implementation of the plan along with the applicable public institutions" noted Sophie Japaridze.

Aim and format of the conference covered the exchange of information on the experience and challenges of successful countries, establishment and operation of institutional coordination mechanisms with public institutions of Ukraine, representatives of international and civil society organizations. International conference, which was organized by the UN Women in cooperation with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine on Euro-Atlantic Integration, was attended by over 100 delegates.

Government of Georgia has been implementing the UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security since 2011. In line with the commitments assumed under the Action Plan for 2016-2017, Government of Georgia established an Inter-Agency Commission, which is a development and coordination mechanism for the plan. It coordinated the process of design and development of the National Action Plan on Gender Equality, Fight Against Corporal Punishment and UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security for 2018-2020.
