A Ukrainian and Moldovan delegation will familiarize itself with Georgia's experience in implementing the Un Security Council's Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security. The delegation consisting of representatives of the state and civic sectors was hosted today by the Georgian Prime Minister's Human Rights and Gender Equality Assistant Sopo Japaridze.

During the meeting at the Administration of the Government, Sopo Japaridze spoke about the process of policy-making, the results of coordinated cooperation between civil society and the Government, different aspects of the 2018-2020 National Action Plan, and plans for the future.

"Georgia's National Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Security Council's Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security is a state tool for consistent policy and coordinated action. Through this plan, the Government of Georgia integrates a gender perspective into the security sector and decision-making. The plan's implementation involves ensuring the protection of women's and girls' rights and their full engagement in conflict-prevention and conflict-resolution," Sopo Japaridze underlined.

The Prime Minister's Assistant also shared with the Ukrainian and Moldovan delegation information about the work and mandate of the Interagency Commission on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.

According to Sopo Japaridze, the Government of Georgia, in 2011, approved the first national action plan, becoming the region's leader in the implementation of the UN Security Council's Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security. In line with obligations under the second action plan, the June 2017 Decree of the Government established the Interagency Commission on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, a mechanism responsible for the development of the National Policy for Gender equality, Combating Domestic Violence, and the Implementation of the UN Security Council's Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security, and for the coordination of its implementation.

The meeting with the Ukrainian and Moldovan delegation was attended by the leading implementing state institutions in charge of the implementation of the UN Security Council's Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security, including representatives of the Human Rights Department at the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia.
