Specific measures aimed at attainment of gender equality Print Version

Prime Minister's Assistant on Human Rights Protection and Gender Equality Issues Sopho Japaridze delivered a speech during the business lunch held within the frames of 25th session of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
The topic of the presentation was "from undertakings to actions: specific measures aimed at attainment of gender equality".

Sopho Japaridze elaborated on three specific measures implemented by the Government of Georgia for the purpose of ensuring gender equality.
First of all she addressed the National Strategy on Protection of Human Rights and relevant Action Plan. According to her, one of the main directions envisaged by the said document is ensuring gender equality and empowering women, as well as fighting against violence against women and domestic violence. According to Sopho Japaridze, the Interagency Coordination Council on Human Rights chaired by the Prime Minister is one of the guarantees of effective implementation of the said area.

Sopho Japaridze also elaborated on the various mechanisms set up under the executive government for the purpose of promoting gender equality. She noted that the Charter of the Interagency Commission on Gender Equality, Fighting Violence against Women and Domestic Violence is being elaborated. Upon approval of the said document, strong institutional mechanism under the executive government will be set up thus ensuring 2014 Recommendation issued by Convention on Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) to Georgia.
By the end of her presentation, Sopho Japaridze addrssed the process of nationalization of sustainable development goals and indicated that Government of Georgia, with the support of UN Women, undertook important work to elaborate gender sensitive indicators of 17 goals.

According to her, nationalized sustainable development goals will be reflected in the policy documents elaborated by the Government. Effective implementation of latters will soon be ensured by the Interagency Commission on Gender Equality and Fighting Violence against Women and Girls set up at the Administration of the Government.
