At the beginning of the Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri talked about the data of January, 2010.
We are providing the opening statement of the Prime Minister made at the Meeting of the Government:
"Certainly, it's quite difficult to discuss general economic activity in the country just according to the data of one month and predict the situation for 2010, but we are having the figure which is in very close correlation with the Gross Domestic Product and generally with the economic activity. The figure represents the monthly turnover of the companies registered in Georgia, i.e. how much gross revenue the companies registered in Georgia actually collected.
This figure frequently coincides with the tendencies of Gross Domestic Product... We can evaluate the data of January that seem rather positive. I would like to say that as of the data of January, 2010, the companies' total turnover has been increased by 10% if comparing with January of the last year, and has equaled the figure of January, 2008. January and February of 2008 were remarkable for the highest economic activity. The data of January of 2010 equal the very figure of January and February of 2008.
I hope that we will keep the tendencies and finish the first quarter with the positive economic activity data."
