Prime-Minister Nika Gilauri visits Qatar

Prime-Minister of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al-Thani and  Prime-Minister of Georgia Nika GilauriThe Prime Minister Nika Gilauri was on his official visit to Qatar on February 24-25, when the parties discussed development and enhancing of economic relations of the two countries.

In the capital of the state, Doha, Gilauri was welcomed by Qatar Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al-Thani.

During negotiations the parties agreed upon entering into double taxation prevention agreement as soon as possible, as well as establishment of a joint business council and working over particular projects. Qatar Prime Minister will arrive to Georgia early in April, 2010 to familiarize with our country in situ and the existing business environment.

Qatar party does not exclude investments in the Georgian real estate market. Besides businessmen of the said country showed interest in making certain investments in the Georgian agriculture although they are currently conducting negotiations over the details thereof.

During his visit to Qatar Gilauri visited Investment Company DIAR which invests its capital in real estate of different countries. The Management of this Company familiarized Gilauri with all details of the investment projects under way in different countries, in particular, Middle East countries, the Great Britain and from CIS countries -Tajikistan.

When the representative of this country was on his visit in Georgia he said in his conversation with Gilauri that Tbilisi and Batumi had good potential for very attractive investments to be made by this Company. Head of Qatar Businessmen Association and Prime-minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri

Furthermore, Gilauri met the Manager of Hasad Food Company Naser Al Hajery and the General Director of Qatar Airlines Akbar Al-Bakeer. During meeting with Qatar Airlines Manager they talked about starting direct traffic between Tbilisi and Doha which should facilitate movement of citizens of the said two countries and establishment of contacts among businessmen.

In the course of talks with Gilauri the Manager of Qatar Airlines stated that his company would establish direct air traffic between Tbilisi and Doha. Although the starting date of air traffic is not clear and they will arrange additional negotiations with this regard.

Within the scope of his official visits, the Georgian Prime Minister met also Managers of Qatar Businessmen Association. During this visit they discussed possible investments of the Qatar party in such sectors as tourism, real estate, banking sectors, telecommunications and hydropower engineering.

 

Qatar businessmen intend to visit Georgia in the near future.

The Georgian Prime Minister stated that they discussed different topics at the meetings: we talked about double taxation prevention agreement which would ease relations among businessmen of the said two countries. We talked about investments security agreement, as well as about establishment of a joint organization consisting of Georgian and Qatar businessmen. He said that all these will be done by the Government for motivation and stimulation of new investments from Qatar to Georgia.
