Government of Georgia – Appearance 2009

On January 30, 2009 at the Chancellery of the Government of Georgia the Prime Minister of Georgia Grigol Mgaloblishvili sent in his resignation.

"Greetings, I have not met you for a rather big time because I have been in the intensive treatment regime. I am very upset that worsening of my health coincides with the one of the most important stage of my life. The President and Parliament of the country have entrusted to me the leadership of the Georgian government. Unfortunately, at that time when all our efforts are aimed at overcoming of the world economic crisis and problems resulted from the Russian aggression and preservation of working places, I as the Prime Minister of Georgia underwent treatment for some times.

In the doctors' opinion I will need more two months of intensive therapy regime. You all will agree that today Georgia cannot afford the luxury of the prime minister of the country who will not have been in a good order within three months. Today the country needs the government and prime minister who will be able to work 24 hours. I was going to do so and asked the Cabinet members to follow me. Unfortunately because of worsening of my health I have failed to do this. Proceeding from the responsibility I have before the country, Georgian people and Georgian president today I spoke with the Georgian president and asked him to nominate a new person to the position of prime minister. I cannot allow myself to make the state of my health a reason of degradation of the government. I would also to underline that from the first day of my appointment I have always had the full support and assistance from the Georgian president and would like to appreciate it.

I would like also to thank my colleagues whose professionalism and diligence within that past month have facilitated the burden of my responsibility.

I would also thank the Parliament of Georgia and its chairman for their confidence and cooperation.

Mt special acknowledgement to His Beatitude, All-Georgia Catholikos Patriarch Ilya II for support and prayers which have always increased by strength and encouraged me.

And finally I would like to add that I will remain serving the Georgian state and Georgian people and together with the president and my friends I will do all my best efforts to bring the affairs and goals we have set together in the last period, to the end, - stated Grigol Mgaloblishvili.
