Government of Georgia – Appearance 2009

January 30, 2009 the Prime Minister Grigol Mgaloblishbili stated about his resignation at the State Chancellery of Georgia.

After greeting the audience, the Prime Minister said: "I have not appeared before you for so long due to the fact that I underwent and I'm still undergoing intensive treatment. I feel very sorry that worsening of my health condition coincides with one of the most important period of my life. The Georgian President and the Parliament reposed a great trust in me to head the Government of Georgia. I feel very sorry because today when all our efforts and energies are oriented on averting of the economic crisis worldwide and settle the problems arising out of and due to the Russian aggression and keep the work places, I, as the Prime Minister of Georgia, I have been out for treatment.

According to the physicians, I still need to undergo intensive treatment . Everyone will agree with me, that now Georgia cannot afford such luxury as to leave the Prime Minister of the country for three months. Today the country needs its Government and the prime Minister who will able to work in a 24-hour working regime. I intended to work just in this way and recommend the members of the Cabinet to do so. Unfortunately, I have no chance to do so due to worsening of my health condition. Pursuant to the responsibility vested in me before the country, the Georgian citizens and the President of Georgia, today I had a conversation with the President of Georgia and asked him to put up a new candidate for the Prime Minister. I cannot alow myself that worsening of my health condition to serve as a reason for slackening of the Government's capability in any way whatsoever. I also want to highlight that I always had the President's support and assistance from the very day of my designation and want to appreciate his kindness.
