Prime Minister’s Visit to Racha

On September 5 the Prime Minister of Georgia visited Racha.

Zurab Noghaideli inspected the 15-km section of the road connecting Oni and Ambrolauri. In Ambrolauri he also inspected the objects under construction which completion is planned for the nearest future. Those objects are: the hotels for 70 persons and shopping center in the Ambrolauri downtown as well as small winery, tennis courts, children's ground and house of justice.

The Prime Minister stated that the tourism will hold the priority place in the development of Racha economy. From this aspect the noteworthy is development of the territory adjacent to Shaori water reservoir.

During the past 2 years from the national budget to development of the region have been already spent 45 million GEL. Were restored bridges damaged after the disaster, the reconstruction of roads is in progress, the cost-protecting operations are completed, was attained the agreement on privatization of rest houses in Utzera and Shovi: "the approaches will be more fundamental in future, we are making the tourist development plan round the Shaori water reservoirs. Were built hotels, complexes, boarding houses, rest houses and tourist infrastructure will be put in order in the nearest future, - stated Zurab Noghaideli within his visit to Racha.

The Prime Minister inspected the process of repair operations at the public school N 2 of Ambrolauri and was not satisfied with the quality and pace of the construction. The academic year there was not started on September 18 and the builders may be imposed sanctions for their default.

In Oni Zurab Noghaideli met the local residents. The discussion concerned the problem of water supply of the town, which had not been solved for 60 years. This issue aggravated after the last year flood when the water reservoir was completely destroyed. The head of the Government promised to people that the state will deal with this issue from the next year. "The shore-protecting operations are rather serious and have been performed well; the water problem will be resolved in the nearest future. The main problem of the region was construction and rehabilitation of roads and we have succeeded to overcome it and to continue the activity in the line in the future as well," - stated the Prime Minister.

At the end of the visit the head of the Government held the conference with the heads of local administrations. The discussion covered the investments to be made by the state in the regions.

This year Racha was visited by a largest number of guests for the last ten years. In opinion of the local administration, implementation of the planned investment projects will increase two times the number of vacationers in Racha.
