Sitting of Governmental Commission for Internally Displaced Persons

On October 20 at the Chancellery of the Government of Georgia was held the sitting of Governmental Commission for Internally Displaced Persons. Before beginning of the meeting the Prime Minister of Georgia Vladimer Gurgenidze stated that the today working meeting is devoted to the discussion on the operational variant of that strategy which was presented by the ministry for refugees and accomodation.

"After the today consideration we shall prepare the variant which can be submitted to the Government session and made the subject of the public consideration. The top subject of this strategy is construction of houses and apartments for victims of Russian aggression, those people who have left homeless. Many things are made in this direction, the activity is very effective, the houses and apartments are built for about 7 thousand families, - noted the Prime Minister.

Vladimer Gurgenidze said that a part of construction in progress will be completed this year.

"We have a very important objective to cerate similar living conditions for those victims, refugees who have been existed in our country since 1989-1993.

This is a very large part of our countrymen. For many years they have lived in very bad conditions. This problem cannot be solved in one or two years. One of our top priorities shall be solution of their problems similar to those people who have left homeless as a result of the August conflict.

In Brussels we will discuss with the donors the issue of allotment of sums for improvement of living conditions of refugees of 1993 and earlier years. Naturally, the state will also assign sums in some following months. According to our estimates this program will cost about 1 billion GEL in total. Georgia will not be able to raise such amount without the donor's aid.

This si the beginning of the process which will bring to the final solution of the problem. Every victim, every refugee shall have normal living conditions, - stated Vladimer Gurgenidze.
