Working Visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to the USA

On 19-26 October Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli visited United States of America.

On 20 October a session of the Georgian-American business council was held in Chicago. Analysts, businessmen and representatives of the US administration attended the session. In his speech, the prime minister spoke about ongoing reforms in the country and called on American businessmen to make further investments in Georgia.

On 21 October Noghaideli held meetings with Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman, World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz and Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Takatoshi Kato. They discussed issues of further support from international finance organizations particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

The Georgian prime minister was also invited to the Millennium Challenge Corporation, which recently allocated 300m dollars to support Georgia. During the meeting the sides spoke about the importance of the programme, especially from the standpoint of infrastructure development and Georgia's rural regions.

On 24 October Noghaideli met US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who said they supported Georgia's plan for the peaceful settlement of the South Ossetia conflict.

The prime minister also met Senators John McCain, Sam Brownback, Richard Lugar, Robert Bennett, Harry Reid, Chuck Hagel and Hillary Clinton.
Noghaideli later delivered speeches at the Metropolitan Club and the Brookings Institution.
