Prime Minister of Georgia Explores a Demo Base Station of Perennial Crops in Jighauri Village Print Version

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia explored a demo base station of perennial crops in Jighauri village of Mtskheta municipality together with Kakha Kuchava, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia today.

According to Levan Davitashvili, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Scientific-Research Center or Agriculture took over the perennial crops demo site in 2014, which was originally created by Agro (legal entity of private law) and Agro Cartu LLC with financial support of Cartu Fund (charity foundation).

Almost 470 species of Georgian and 350 foreign grapes are planted in the vineyards covering 80 hectares of land. It includes a collection of unique and rare breeds of Georgian grapes. Demo site also has nursery of over 400 species of seed and stone fruits, nuts and berries, along with a live collection of almost 90 types of forest plants, 11 species of mulberry and over 30 forms of collections, almost 1000 base nurseries of 5 various breeds of goji berry, grafting and stratification as well as cooling compound, plant fumigation and thermal treatment compound, virology lab and greenhouse orangeries.

Levan Davitashvili also noted that a construction of a scientific-research space of viticulture and grape products has been completed already, which will house the Center of Georgian Vine and Wine Culture along with a lab, conference space and tasting spaces, vine and wine museum corner, wine cellar and l'enotheque. Cost of the project is 2 888 882 GEL.

Prime Minister of Georgia was accompanied to the perennial crop demo base station by Irakli Karseladze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia; MP Dimitri Khundadze, Member of Parliament of Georgia; Larry Barnabishvili, Department Head for Regional Coverage at the Government Administration of Georgia and David Nozadze, State Representative in Mtskheta-Mtianeti.
