The Government is doing everything to put in place a modern European system of education in the country, and every reform launched by Mister Mikheil Chkhenkeli serves this purpose, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated during today's meeting with youth and professors/teachers at the Samtskhe-Javakheti University in Akhaltsikhe, celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The Head of Government-together with Parliament Speaker Kakha Kuchava, Minister of Education and Science Mikheil Chkhenkeli, and Majoritarian MP Anton Obolashvili (Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni, Borjomi, and Aspindza) -held a meeting with the university's faculty and students.

The Prime Minister emphasized the university's role and contribution to the region's development, and wished its rector and faculty a happy anniversary. Irakli Garibashvili also familiarized himself with the university's challenges and issued relevant instructions for the Minister of Education and Science.

"In my modest opinion, the most important advice I can give you is to set a goal, think big and have a big dream, stick to it, and make sure that every step, every year draws you closer to big goal. The Government is doing everything to put in place a modern European system of education in the country, and every reform launched by Mister Mikheil Chkhenkeli serves this great cause. I see that the university needs assistance, and I am pledging this assistance to you. And I would like to instruct Mister Minister to do initial work, and we will allocate financing for the benefit of your university," the Prime Minister said.

The Samtskhe-Javakheti University runs a unified space for scientific research, higher and vocational education, and continuing education. 300 ethnic minority representatives are educated here in the state language.

The Samtskhe-Javakheti University is the only state university to offer an integrated five-year master's degree program in veterinary science (300 credits).

On the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science, the integrated five-year master's degree program in veterinary science was included among the priority educational programs of the Samtskhe-Javakheti University in 2021. Consequently, the state will, in the course of five years, cover the tuition fee for all students enrolled in this program.

The university runs 26 educational programs on all three levels of education, in addition to four vocational education programs. The section allocated for vocational programs at the Samtskhe-Javakheti University is presently under full rehabilitation (budget: 2,572,741 GEL) implemented by the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency LEPL. Rehabilitation is expected to be finalized by the end of 2021, after which Akhalkalaki's school of education will meet all modern standards, being equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, a library, a conference area, workshops for practical learning, and fire safety systems. The school's territory will be adapted for persons with disabilities. The renewed school will offer vocational programs stemming from the needs of the region's municipalities.
