Inter-Agency Coordination Council Rules to Ban Municipal Transport during May 3-12; Visits to Cemeteries will be Restricted on Upcoming Public Holidays Print Version

Municipal transport will be suspended nation-wide during May 3-12, while visits to cemeteries will be restricted on upcoming public holidays. This decision has been taken by the Inter-Agency Coordination Council at its meeting today, which was led by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Government Administration.

Council has reviewed the rising trend of viral infection both in Georgia and worldwide. It has been noted that along with the cases of COVID infection, the indicator of hospitalization is rising as well. Thus, the Ministry of Health has developed a plan according to the instructions given by the Prime Minister of Georgia to mobilize additional hospital beds and manage the medication, oxygen supplies and test kits. It was also noted that the system is ready even for the worst scenario, the situation is under control and the Government is managing the process overall.

In line with the decision of the Inter-Agency Coordination Council, groups of population defined in the respective Government Decree will be tested throughout May with state funding by taking into account the current epidemic situation.

As for the approaching Easter holiday, celebratory liturgy will be held at churches of the country in full compliance with epidemic safety norms on the grounds of the communication held with the patriarchy of Georgia. Inter alia, sound amplification systems will be installed at and around churches, social distancing will be practiced and facemasks will be worn as defined in the regulations.

At the same time, restrictions set on the mobility will be adjusted for only one night in relation with the Easter Liturgy and ban will be administered from 23:00 on May 1 to 04:00 on May 2.

Inter-Agency Coordination Council has ruled restrictions to be enforced on the visits to cemeteries on the upcoming public holidays. Thus, roads leading to cemeteries will be blocked.

As commonly known, May 4-11 have been declared as public holidays in Georgia. This decision is aimed to limit the mobility in the country. As decided by the Coordination Council, municipal transport will be restricted from May 3 through May 12, 2021.

In parallel and in line with the National Plan of Immunization, the process of COVID vaccination will be continued in an active manner. In relation with the World Immunization Week, members of the Government and Parliament of Georgia will get engaged in the process of vaccination from the current week.

Strict control will be further continued on the enforcement of the imposed restrictions by respective government agencies of the country.

Inter-Agency Coordination Council continues to monitor the current epidemic trends and makes decisions on the grounds of a detailed analysis of the situation.

Since the first detection of the COVID-19 in Georgia, 304 272 test-positive cases have been identified in the country, out of which 287 029 individuals have recovered and 4 043 - died.

At present, 227 individuals are kept in quarantine, 727 - at clinical hotels and 3 676 - at healthcare facilities under medical supervision.

The Inter-Agency Coordination Council led by the Prime Minister of Georgia actively engages the Parliament of Georgia and Administration of the President of Georgia.
