The Inter-Agency Coordination Council led by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia held its regular meeting today in the format of a video conference to consider the deteriorated epidemiological situation and the need to tighten control over the enforcement of imposed restrictions.

It was noted that 1 374 new cases of COVID have been detected within the last 24 hours, which is a particularly noteworthy indicator. Tbilisi leads by the rising number of new cases, while Samegrelo=Zemo Svaneti follows it in the ranking of viral spread. The Inter-Agency Coordination Council is constantly observing the epidemic situation and current trends to come up with relevant decisions on the grounds of a detailed analysis.

Council is also discussing the regulations applicable to individuals arriving from the occupied territories of the country and will be shortly taking further decisions on the grounds of the current epidemic situation.

Adherence to the existing regulations has been stressed as an essential requirement at the Council meeting to avoid the need of tight restrictions in the country. The Coordination Council once again urges the population to properly wear the facemasks, practice social distancing and keep away from large gatherings and organization of social events, which are not permitted under the Government Decree. At the same time, it is also prohibited to let out an indoor space to a third party for habitual social events (e.g. wedding parties, jubilees, funerals, ets.) and mass gatherings. This restriction, if violated, will lead to charges for offences promulgated in the law.

In line with the instructions issued by the Head of Government of Georgia, relevant agencies are mandated to carry out control over the enforcement of the restrictions that are imposed for the prevention of viral spread in the country.

Importance of greater intensity and extension of the vaccination against COVID-19 in the country has been considered at the meeting today. Intensive negotiations will be continued under the instructions and direct engagement of the Prime Minister of Georgia to make sure that the country gets new doses of the vaccine in the nearest future.

Since the detection of the novel Coronavirus in Georgia, 290 129 test-positive cases have been identified, out of which 278 251 individuals recovered and 3 858 died. Currently, 205 individuals are in quarantine, while 323 - at clinical hotels and 2 445 - at hospitals under medical supervision.

The Inter-Agency Coordination Council led by the Prime Minister of Georgia actively engages the Parliament of Georgia chaired by MP Archil Talakvadze and Administration of the President of Georgia.
