Government of Georgia and UN Sign Program of Cooperation Print Version

On June 14, 2010 Georgian PM Nika Gilauri and Mr. Jamie McGoldrick, UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia signed the United Nations Development Assistance Framework where the strategic directions of UN cooperation with the Government of Georgia in 2011-2015 are mapped.

The cooperation program was created as a result of the long consultations between the Government of Georgia, group of UN agencies, donors, civil society and other parties concerned. The UN Development Assistance Framework complies with the national development priorities and millennium development objectives of Georgia.
Georgian PM Nika Gilauri stated: "The program outlines the guidelines which have been elaborated by us together with the UN for the next five years. I would like to thank much the great support of the UN Resident Representative Office in Georgia.

As you are aware within the past two years we have had the great support of this organization. And I hope this will continue in future as well.

We have signed the five-year program. During this period 190 million USD will be allocated for Georgia. The program determines three directions: the first one - promotion of economic growth (overcoming of poverty), health care and education; the second one - democratic development, and the third one - catastrophe risk mitigation. These are three main directions discussed and agreed in this document".

As the document provides, during the next five years the UN aims to make its contribution to the building of a better future for Georgia and Georgian people and to carry out the work in the following directions: increasing and inclusive development, availability of health care, education and necessary social affairs; promotion of independent, fair and democratic administration systems and processes based on the supremacy of law, human rights and equality principles; catastrophe risk mitigation and improvement of environmental activities. The important complex issues are also the conflict prevention and improvement of pre-conflict situation. The UN activity will be still oriented to the support and assistance to the vulnerable population groups - the destitute, disabled, internally displaced persons, refugees and so on.
