Government of Georgia – Appearance 2007

The governmental group for fair and free elections will be chaired by Eka Tkeshelashvili

On December 14, the Prime Minister of Georgia Vladimer Gurgenidze stated that for the purpose of holding the elections in a democratic way, under Nino Burjanadze's initiative, a governmental stirring-group has been launched. The said stirring-group will coordinate the actions undertaken by the public structures and their relationship with the international as well as local observers; this group will also investigate all the de facto incidents as well as those that may possibly occur. - "It's natural, that this is not a simple process and therefore, we decided to reinforce the stirring-group by involving the representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior, as well as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration Nino Nakashidze; the group will be chaired by the Minister of Justice Eka Tkeshelashvili. I have already met with the members of the group, as well as with Ditter Boden, Head of the mission of observers of the OSCE. The meetings will continue with the Interim President of Georgia Nino Burjanadze and in a short while the process will proceed in an active regime", - Vlademer Gurgenidze asserted.

On her behalf, head of the stirring-group Eka Tkeshelashvili added that the said group will have rather intensive links with the mass media representatives almost on daily basis. The stirring group will be concentrated on two directions mostly. The first is establishing maximum coordination with all the governmental bodies, so that the elections will be held in open and free regime. Another direction is not of least importance, because it will encompass coordination with the observers for the purpose of enhancing their work to the utmost.
