Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili continues a series of high-level meetings within the scope of his official visit to Hungary. Today, an official welcoming ceremony in honor of the Prime Minister of Georgia was held at the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary. The anthems of the two countries were performed.

Granting the status of an EU candidate country to Georgia, the country's territorial integrity, and the multidirectional economic cooperation between the two countries were the key topics discussed at today's face-to-face meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and at the subsequent extended meeting.

The conversation touched on Georgia's considerable progress on the path to European integration. According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, the country's authorities are committed to fulfilling assumed obligations in order to achieve rapid progress on the path to EU membership.

Hungary's firm support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity was underlined at the meeting, for which Irakli Garibashvili thanked his Hungarian counterpart. Hungary's significant contribution to the EU Monitoring Mission was also underscored.

Special emphasis was placed on the economic cooperation between Georgia and Hungary, pointing out that, this year, the trade turnover between the two countries doubled. The parties also discussed new projects and prospective plans in this direction, with their implementation set to deepen the economic relations between the two countries even further.

The conversation also revolved around the need to work toward enhancing Black Sea connectivity. Hope was expressed that, with increased activity on the part of European partners and European financial institutions in place, the potential of the Black Sea will be used to the fullest.

The parties discussed regional security issues.

After the meeting, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán signed the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Hungary and Georgia.
