French Prime Minister: France considers Georgia a privileged partner

2021-01-13

France sees Georgia as its privileged partner, and we are mobilized to help Georgia strengthen ties with the EU and NATO, French Prime Minister Jean Castex addresses Giorgi Gakharia in a letter and congratulates him on his reappointment as Head of Government.

The French Prime Minister's congratulatory letter emphasizes France's unwavering support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders.

"Dear Prime Minister,

Allow me to congratulate you on your confirmation to the Office of Prime Minister as your country, similar to ours, is facing epidemiological and economic challenges-in a world where our democratic values are jeopardized and international relations grow increasingly unpredictable. Notwithstanding these circumstances, I am happy to reassure you that France views Georgia as its privileged partner, and we are mobilized to help Georgia strengthen ties with the EU and NATO, especially since your country plays an exemplary role in the Eastern Partnership.

In the December 12 Communique, France and Germany were given a chance to single out the importance they ascribe to strengthening Georgia's democratic institutions and continuation of the ambitious reforms initiated by you. They also availed themselves of the opportunity to reiterate their strong support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders. Please accept my assurances that we are committed to this position at every forum without exception-wherever such a reminder can make a difference.

In conclusion, my wish for 2021 is to hold a second meeting under the bilateral strategic dialogue between France and Georgia which opened on December 2, 2019, in Paris.

Once again, please accept my congratulations and the assurances of my highest consideration," the French Prime Minister's congratulatory letter reads.
