The construction of the 13-kilometer section of the Batumi bypass is in full swing. The construction site was visited today by Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia together with Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maya Tskitishvili and Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous republic of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze.

At this point, 17 bridges and 4 tunnels are under construction.

The presently available road passes through tourist and residential areas to complicate international transit traffic. After the project's completion, the Batumi bypass, together with the Kobuleti bypass, will completely relieve traffic in Adjara's resort area, and that will help increase transit freight turnover.

In addition, the ecological situation in the resort area will improve significantly.

Under the project, a two-lane asphalt concrete road, 19 overpasses, 4 traffic junctions, 5 tunnels, and 57 water pipes will be built. The new bypass will encompass Makhinjauri, Gantiadi, Kapreshumi, Salibauri, Peria, Makhvilauri, and Khelvachauri.

The project, with its contractual value reaching 329,630.734 GEL, is financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
