LINAS LINKEVIČIUS REAFFIRMED GIORGI GAKHARIA IN HIS SUPPORT TOWARDS EUROPEAN AND EURO-ATLANTIC INTEGRATION OF GEORGIA

Lietuva is an active and vocal supporter of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia, inspired to further assist the country towards this end. It was stated by Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lietuva at a meeting with Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia today.

Focus was made on close bilateral relations between Georgia and Lietuva in various dimensions, along with an active cooperation within the scope of international organizations.

Reforms implemented in the country, including the improved election system and namely the decision made on holding the upcoming general elections by proportional system, were praised.

Discussions were also related to the current development of events in the region, along with the challenging position in terms of security and humanitarian needs in the occupied territories of Georgia. Need of high-level discussions was underlined with an engagement of international partners and focusing on the conflicts existing on the territory of Georgia both in international formats and in a bilateral dialogue with Russia. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lietuva reaffirmed the Head of Government of Georgia in the solid support of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.

Progress achieved by the country towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration was clearly noted at the meeting. Prime Minister of Georgia spoke about the intensified relations with NATO and visit of the North-Atlantic Council within the context, which is scheduled in Georgia in the nearest future.

Head of Government of Georgia expressed gratitude to Lietuva for its active support of Georgia.
