PRIME MINISTER OF GEORGIA INITIATES CONSTRUCTION OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX IN BATUMI

2019-05-17

---

Construction of a new multi-functional education complex initiated by Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia commenced today at a site in Batumi encompassing 7 hectares of land.

Project was presented by the Head of Government of Georgia today.

Modern education space includes Komarov School, student residence, vocational education center, high tech labs, library, arts and crafts schools, sports and game fields and recreation zone.

As noted by the Prime Minister of Georgia at the presentation of a new construction site, it is the intention of the Government of Georgia to implement similar projects in every region of the country to make sure that youth gets all the opportunities to give rise to their talent and knowledge.

"I have heard a lot of ideas, including ungrounded criticism, on how come the education is a national idea. It is! Education is the only right way to overcoming all the challenges faced by Georgia and that makes education our national idea. It can shape Georgia into a successful country in the 21st century and I am strongly convinced that Georgian nation has a unique talent and potential" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of Government of Georgia noted that 1.6 BLN GEL has been allocated for education in the State Budget this year, 2 BLN GEL - next year, 2.5 BLN GEL - in 2021 and 3.4 BLN GEL, i.e. one quarter of the State Budget - in 2022. According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, implementation of the national idea conditions the substantial expenditure in education, future generation, school teachers, university professors, young scientists and researchers - people that carry the burden of building the statehood and future of Georgia.

Head of Government of Georgia also referred to the Draft Law submitted to the Parliament of Georgia, according to which every successive government will be obliged to allocate the largest budget earmarking in the coming dozens of years for the future of the country, rather than following elections.

Prime Minister of Georgia is confident that this is the road that will secure a great success of Georgia.

"Integral part of the project is to ensure the decent conditions of life for teachers. It is my personal tragedy when average salary of teachers is below even a statistical average pay in the country. We are increasing wages and salaries of teachers by at least 150 GEL from autumn this year and the increase will turn into an annual trend to reach 1500-1800 GEL a month in 2022 on average. Country, which does not reward teachers for their efforts may not only lose its future, but its past as well. I wish to once again greet our teachers and express particular warmth towards the long-serving ones, who managed to sustain the education system with poor or no funding whatsoever. System needs new energy, new investments, new vision and we will ensure this all" added the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of Government of Georgia also spoke about opponents of the national idea and labeled them as irresponsible politicians.

"It is surprising to me that even such national idea has been opposed by absolutely irresponsible politicians. Sadly, most recent history of Georgia is a clear example of behavior demonstrated by such reckless politicians. I did not wish to have this national idea, which was supposed to unite us all, get such opponents. Irrespective of their political agenda, which is absolutely irresponsible and diverted from our national interests, these allegations have still been voiced. I wish to pledge as a Prime Minister of Georgia in the presence of you all that this national idea will be fully accomplished by all means. This national idea will be the only guarantee for each of us, our future generation, our children to live in a united and strong Georgia and we will once again be rediscovered as the most talented and educated nation/country" concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.

City of Education and Science will facilitate the performance of an education process in a modern and technologically savvy environment. In addition, it will ease and increase access to advanced technologies at every stage of learning, develop professional skills and introduce healthy lifestyle among the youth and future generations.
